DOCTOR STRANGE 3 VILLAIN & Avengers 5 Setup

A new Doctor Strange 3 fan poster features three Sorcerer Supremes on a multiversal mission in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange has only grown in importance to the wider MCU over the years, and after dealing with the multiverse head-on in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Doctor Strange‘s 3 story should continue the mission that was set up by the film’s post-credits scene: stopping incursions.

On Instagram, digital artist @bensolo_cup shared a stunning fan poster that features three Sorcerer Supremes in action in Marvel Studios’ Doctor Strange 3.

The three Sorcerer Supremes in question are Cumberbatch’s Strange himself, who is currently not the MCU’s Sorcerer Supreme; Benedict Wong’s Wong, the active Sorcerer Supreme of the MCU; and Charlize Theron’s Clea, who becomes the Sorcerer Supreme of the Dark Dimension in the comics and could go on a similar path in the MCU. The Doctor Strange 3 fan poster imagines the trio dealing with incursions, the threat that will eventually lead to Avengers: Secret Wars.

What We Know About Doctor Strange 3 So Far

Marvel Studios has yet to officially confirm that Doctor Strange 3 is happening, and with the ongoing Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, that could take a while. Several Marvel movies and TV shows have been recently delayed due to the strikes, and with such a backlog of projects needing to resume filming or waiting to start production, Doctor Strange 3 should take some years to come by. While no announcement has been made by Marvel on Cumberbatch’s third solo movie amid the Hollywood uncertainty, rumors have begun popping up about Doctor Strange 3 being in development and what the movie might be about.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness set up Cumberbatch’s next MCU adventure, making him vital to Avengers: Secret Wars. Clea appeared to Doctor Strange to get his help to stop an incursion — the collision between two universes — that he created. Avengers: Secret Wars should be all about Marvel heroes from all over the multiverse stopping incursions, linking back to Doctor Strange’s latest MCU appearance. A rumor has recently emerged about the story set up for Doctor Strange 3, which makes the movie the perfect lead-in to Avengers: Secret Wars. According to the rumor, Doctor Strange 3 will adapt the “Time Runs Out” story from Marvel Comics.

In that story, the Illuminati — which had a multiversal version introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — were hunted by the Avengers for destroying another world in an effort to save the main Marvel universe from an incursion. The two teams then joined forces when the destruction of their universe seemed inevitable, leading to the incursion that was the focus of 2015’s “Secret Wars.” By adapting “Time Runs Out,” Doctor Strange 3 could be to Avengers: Secret Wars what the story was to the comics’ version of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga finale.
